Online Blood Databank

IndianBloodDonors.com endeavors to bring together genuine and well-meaning blood donors and patients using the powerful medium of the web. Khushroo and Fermin Poacha of Nagpur initiated this effort in the year 2000, and last checked, had over 4000 registered donors in 174 Indian cities and growing!

Their website has been of much help to several people and has helped in saving many lives. An emergency blood request can also be broadcasted over the local Siti Cable network, with which the website has tied up for the purpose. The cost of running the website includes that of web hosting, monthly telephone bills (around Rs.5,000), equipment (the Poacha's started this endeavor on a second-hand purchase of a computer), getting donor cards printed, and other incidental administrative costs. Till date, Ekjut has sponsored three months of telephone bills for this effort. However, the Poacha's need sponsorship for equipment up-gradation, web hosting costs/buying a dedicated web-server and recurring monthly expenditure, for which they are essentially dipping into the pool of their own savings.
